Who ever thought there would be a day non-traditional and traditional forms of media would actually meet. Seriously though? Join forces. In the back of my mind, I probably thought this was going to happen eventually, though, I never really actually thought about it.
So Social is collaborating with Television, and by Social I mean Youtube – the social platform where over 4 billion videos are watched per day; with over 1 billion unique visitors each month. Yes, Youtube. The platform where you can watch videos ranging from funny falls, outrageously amazing singers, and even the newest fad, you can watch Vines – the 8 second-long video collages – on Youtube.
All Social platforms have really grown substantially in popularity over the past few years. Every year, there’s one more platform to add to the mix. To name a few: Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, LinkedIn…you get the point. Though I’d say right now, Youtube is standing out far more than any other Social platforms. But why? Well back to the point of what sparked my interest in writing this!
Social Meets TV!
Youtube has announce its first-ever Music Awards Show. And like many other Music Award Shows, the audience picks the winners. But what makes Youtube stand out from other award shows is merely the fact of the platform’s virality. And to further my point on Social collaborating with TV is the way the winners will be chose. The winners will be determined by the number of times nominated videos are shared via Twitter, Facebook, Google+ and other social platforms. Yep, Youtube really has got it going here. Over the past 5 years, Youtube has become a huge part of many of our lives in watching these videos, specifically finding these hidden-gems of singers and performers who have been able to use Youtube to express and demonstrate their talent and essentially jump-start their careers.
Nonetheless, the mere connection many of us have developed with these singers and performers is what I think is going to make this Award Show so popular. What has created is connection is how the videos have been created and viewed. Many of these singers have produced these videos right at home, and many of us have watched these videos at home as well. Watching these videos at home, on your personal computer gives it a much more person feel I’d say as opposed to if we had watched these singers perform on our television. Social is all about the engagement and emotional and social (duh) connection people have with others through these platforms.
Anyway, needless to say. This is going to be huge! Here’s a video to ramp it up some more.
